Accommodation for UK work experience
Living with a host family
In many ways, accommodation is the most important part of any work placement. Many of the young people who come to us are abroad for the first time, so their comfort and safety will be our first concern.
For this reason, we’ve developed a network of host families in the UK – people who can offer your trainees full or half board accommodation, as well as the friendship and support they’ll need when their placement begins.
Our host families come in all shapes and sizes. Some might be typical ‘nuclear’ families with two parents and two children, while others could be childless couples, retired people or singles. Either way, they’ve joined our programme because they love to meet new people – and of course we’ve accepted them after a thorough screening process.
Host families – the ETS ground rules:
We ask our host families and trainees to follow a code of conduct, that includes:
- Courtesy: families will have their own house rules on things like mealtimes, cleaning and timekeeping. We encourage all our host families to keep to these rules, and trainees will need to accept this.
- Respect: naturally, we expect host families and trainees to respect each other’s cultures and values.
- Feedback: if a problem should occur, we expect the trainee or host family to contact us immediately. Problems are extremely rare, but we will always be standing by to resolve any situation.
